extremely important historical and horticultural treasure of the South. seventy eighty year old planting of native and rare plants. The hosts, Jessie and Richard Johnson, are the most gracious and friendly folks. Richard grew up in the neighborhood and worked for "Ms. Carrie" as a young boy. He and Jessie are the gardeners here, with stories of time gone by and unmatched plant knowledge that they share with visitors. Out of the way, maybe, but well worth the trip from anywhere in the U.S. and abroad. something always in bloom through the year. inventive projects all through the year are being accomplished and a collection of plants that boggles the plant nerd's mind.

Sure a phenomenal place - beautiful collection of rare and special plants of the southeast. Rick is a fantastic host. Come down to get your woodland fix and celebrate the legacy of the amazing Caroline Dorman.

Wonderful southern example of a lush near-wilderness haven. The springtime multi-variety azalea bloom was most memorable. Nice trails with beautiful scenery, nostalgic history and knowledgeable, hospitable groundskeepers! Thanks!

I moved to Louisiana two years ago. Discovering Briarwood has been one of the highlights of my experience here so far. The tranquility, beauty, and honesty of this site is infectious. Once you step out of your car whatever cares were on your mind quickly dissolve. I always take my time driving in my car when I exit hoping that the feeling of calm will follow me back into Natchitoches. And, I cannot begin to say enough about the curators - the Johnson family. Talking with the Johnson's is a great experience in itself!
